Pike County Skaters have been working hard since 2007.  They are now close to the goal of building a skate park in Pittsfield.  To reach their goal, they are embarking on their biggest fundraising drive next month in coordination with Valentine’s Day – “Have a Heart – Support the Park!”

With the support of public officials and community leaders, the group will utilize a radio and letter-writing campaign to encourage all Pike County residents and businesses to participate in building a safe place for kids to skate.

There are 17,000 people in Pike County.  If each person gave just one dollar, the park could be built tomorrow!  This Valentine’s Day weekend, all Pike County residents are encouraged to put their dollars or checks in the bright orange collection boxes at participating gas stations, Save A Lot, County Market, Catering & More, and McDonalds.  The collection boxes will be in place all day Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 13th and 14th.

At the same time, letters will be sent to county businesses asking for their support.  There are several options for business contributions:   $25 Bronze, $50 Silver, $100 Gold, and $500+ Platinum.  Participating businesses will be given a window sign acknowledging their support.  At the culmination of the fundraising drive, an ad will be placed in local papers naming each of the businesses and organizations making contributions.

With everyone’s support, the park will be built this spring.  Pike County youth will have a safe place to skate.  Our parks will include a new and exciting recreational alternative to newcomers and visitors.

It’s achievable.  It’s important.  It’s possible… with your help.
