Yup! They're Willing To Work!

We've had an amazing month of fundraising! We began at the end of April with a work day at Pine Lakes helping to clean up campsites for the season. A group of parents and skaters raked for an afternoon and made $115 in donations.

In May, we washed jeeps for Two Rivers Jeep Club. The skaters powerwashed mud encrusted jeeps, had a great time, and raised $551.60!

We held a Schwan's Truckload sale in May. Our orders broke the record for Saturday sales in Pittsfield, and we received a check for $212.78!

Some of our high school skaters organized a second work day at Pine Lakes this week. A small group of us weeded a large garden area and raised another $75!

In just over 30 days, we've raised over $950!

I am thrilled at the hard work and initiative of the youth skaters in working towards this project!

Upcoming events include monthly Schwan's truckload sales, a booth at Lincoln Days Civil War Reenactment, a booth at the fair in Griggsville, a second jeep wash in August, and the full festival circuit this fall.

We are about $6,000 away from building Phase 1 of the park. We're also searching for volunteer labor to prepare the site and pour the concrete slab. If you're able to help, let us know! With all our hard work and continued grant writing, we will achieve our goal!

Want a park? Willing to work for it?

So the rain ruined our first chance this season to work for money! Argh!!! Chase, Chet, Nathan, the Westmaas', and the Sealocks were ready bright and early. Others were on their way. But the rain came and stopped us before we could get the rakes out.

Pine Lakes Clean Up has been rescheduled for next week.

I know there are lots of kids and families who are eagerly waiting for the skate park to be built. We need all of you to come out and help us work to get the park!

A park won't get built through waiting and wanting. A park will get built through work and dedication.

Keep an eye on this site, keep in touch with the group, and help in all the upcoming activities so we can build a skate park soon!

Tony Hawk Foundation $5,000!

Yippee for us! We now have $5000 from Tony Hawk Foundation! We will work hard to raise $5000 more so that we can apply for a $5000 matching grant from ARC. That will give us $15,000 in equipment for the first phase of the park.

We also need to raise additional funds to build the foundation of the park. We're still collecting bids for the construction labor -- but we have the rock and concrete either donated or purchased at cost. Depending on the labor bids, we need an additional $6000 - $12,000 to get the foundation completed.

We have several grants to apply for, we hope to do another Pine Lakes Clean Up Day soon, and we're working on other fundraising ideas. If you have fabulous ideas -- by all means, tell us!

Come to the April 21st meeting at JWCC at 6:00 to help the ARC design team decide which equipment we should purchase first.

See you there!

Tony Hawk Foundation Application Submitted

Tony Hawk Foundation Grant

We applied for the Tony Hawk Foundation Grant just before the deadline of October 1st. We hope to hear that we were awarded the grant in December 2008. We applied for the maximum of $24,000. If we get it, American Ramp Company will match that -- which means we'll have $48,000!! With that money, and the help of community members willing to donate their time, labor, and materials, we can build Phase 1 of the park.

Here's hoping we have good news from Tony Hawk as the best Christmas gift ever!
